Callaway Junior Tour High School Series continues at Oglebay Resort

The Callaway Junior Tour High School Series, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), continued its 2024 season with the WVGA High School Invitational at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.

Each school has a team of four players, with the best three scores counting as the team’s total score.  Today’s event, a partner of Callaway Golf and conducted by the WVGA, featured a field of 123 golfers on 31 high school teams across West Virginia.

Cabell Midland won the third event of the four-event series with a combined score of nine over par 222.  Team members were Jack Michael, Alex White, Carson Sergent and Wyatt Maynard.

The remaining schools in the top ten were:

  • Hurricane, (+13) 226;
  • Winfield, (+24) 237;
  • Parkersburg South, (+26) 239;
  • Linsly, (+27) 240;
  • Wheeling Central, (+27) 240;
  • University, (+27) 240;
  • Morgantown, (+30) 243;
  • Elkins, (+35) 248; and
  • Mary’s, (+35) 248.
  • Jack Michael of Cabell Midland took top individuals honors for the second time in the first three events with a four under par 67.  The five players with the lowest individual scores received Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Medalist trophies.  The other awards went to:
    Tommy Evans, Washington, (E) 71;
    Adam Gill, Linsly, (E) 71;
    Preston Lawhon, St. Mary’s, (E) 71; and
    Carson O’Dell, Hurricane, (+3) 74, in a four-way scorecard playoff.

“Oglebay Park is a city park and we love hosting youth golf.  Five of these high school teams use our facilities throughout the season at no cost.  It’s our way to give back to junior golf,” said Oglebay’s Manager of Golf Operations Danny Ackerman.  “The course is in great condition, even without our usual rainfall.”

Teams participating today were from the following high schools: Bridgeport, Brooke, Cabell Midland, Charleston Catholic, East Fairmont, Elkins, Fairmont Senior, George Washington, Grafton, Hurricane, Jefferson, John Marshall, Keyser, Lewis County, Linsly, Morgantown, Parkersburg, Parkersburg South, Petersburg, Philip Barbour, Pocahontas County, Roane County, St. Mary’s, University, Wahama, Warren, Ohio, Washington, Wheeling Central, Wheeling Park, Williamstown and Winfield.
