The third of six state-wide qualifiers for the 91st West Virginia Open Championship, presented by WVU Medicine, enjoyed great conditions at The Club at Cress Creek in Shepherdstown on Thursday. Hoping to qualify for one of six spots or two alternate positions in the Championship later this month, 19 golfers teed off this morning.
“I’ve been here for two weeks. It’s always a privilege to host a state championship or qualifier, and this one is no different,” said Cress Creek’s Head Golf Professional Jeff Rosenberg. “The greens were perfect, held the ball and rolled well. The storm Wednesday night helped the fairways and softened things up a bit on the course.”
Earning Medalist Honors was Drew Call of Shepherdstown who finished at one under par 70. Other qualifiers were:
- Tommy Evans of Charles Town, (E) 71;
- Noah Reasbeck of Martinsburg, (+1) 72;
- Charlie Shultz of Charles Town, (+4) 75;
- Jeff Rosenberg (professional) of Frederick, Md., (+4) 75; and
- Roland Wright of Shepherdstown, (+5) 76.
Alternates are professional Joel Pyron of Charles Town and Dylan Carroll of Kearneysville.
“We thank the staff at Cress Creek for their hospitality and it was a pleasure to meet their new pro, Jeff Rosenberg,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack. “The WV Open features the best amateur and professional golfers in West Virginia. We want to thank WVU Medicine for their support of our qualifiers and the West Virginia Open Championship.”
