Day one is in the books at the West Virginia Golf Association’s (WVGA) Four-Ball Championship on the Raven Course at Snowshoe Resort with 49 two-person teams, or 98 golfers. Leading the Championship Division, with a one-stroke lead at nine under par 63, are Mason Weese of Charleston and Mitch Hoffman of Hurricane.
One stroke back at eight under par 64 is the team of Corey Hoshor of Eleanor and Jeremy Vallet of Logan. They are one stroke ahead of two-time West Virginia Four-Ball Champions Sam O’Dell of Hurricane and Pat Carter of Huntington at seven under par 65, followed by the reigning Four-Ball Champions Bryson Beaver of Elkview and Tanner Vest of Shady Spring at six under par 66.
Individual highlights of the day, which contributed to team scores, were eight birdies for Weese and three birdies for Hoffman. Hoshor scored six birdies in the first round.
Chester Guzek, director of golf at Raven, said, “The course is in great shape and everybody should have a good time this weekend.”
In the First Flight Division, there is a six-way tie for first at two under par 70. The tied teams are: Jason Grimmett and Brian Nickerson, both of Hurricane; Owen Bell and Adam Jordan of Charleston; Davey Jude of Kermit and Christian Brand of Hurricane; Daniel Morgret of Buckhannon and Nicholas Casingal of Charleston; Brian Morrison of Barboursville and Lindy Sullivan of Huntington; and Jared Taylor of Bluefield and Jess Ferrell of Fairmont.
The Second Flight Division features a four-way tie for the lead at one over par 73 between Logan Cerullo of Fairmont and Andrew Rogers of Clarksburg, Anderson Goldman of Charleston and Zan Hill of Daniels; Evan Merlo and Patrick Smith of Beckley, and Brandon Wilfong of Cass and Daniel Gibb of Marlinton.
Chuck Hudson and Matt Larrabee, both of St. Albans, lead the Third Flight Division at six over par 78.
“It was a great day to play golf in West Virginia today one the Raven Course at Snowshoe, with partly cloudy conditions and temperatures in the upper 70s,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack. “We have a great field of 49 teams this weekend.”
