2024 Callaway Junior Rookie League season visits two First Tee host courses

The 2024 Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), concluded the season on Friday, June 7, and Sunday, June 9, at two First Tee program location.

“First Tee – West Virginia has a mission to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf,” said First Tee – West Virginia (FT-WV) Executive Director Jeff Preast. “Through our programs, young people discover how skills essential to success on a golf course can also help them flourish in life.  On golf courses, in elementary schools and on military installations, First Tee has helped shape the lives of young people from all walks of life by teaching values like integrity, respect and perseverance.”

The CJRT Rookie League is broken into three divisions, based on skill and experience.

On Friday, June 7, the Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League played at Lewisburg Elks Country Club and featured a field of 13 golfers aged 5 to 18.  Division winners were:

  • AAA (nine holes): Jacob Williams of Daniels at (+5) 39;
  • AA (nine holes): Logan Faw of Daniels at (+8) 42; and
  • A (six holes): Joseph Williams of Daniels at (+8) 30.

“It’s a great thing to get the youth golfers on our course, especially since we’re a First Tee ‘green grass’ location,” said Lewisburg’s Head Golf Professional Davy Jones.  “The course was great for the kids.”

“The First Tee West Virginia program locations are great hosts for our Rookie League. I would like to thank Chuck Rhoades and Matt Cantrell for helping out this weekend,” said WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware.  “Alyssa Scragg is a great addition to the WVGA and FT-WV teams and she’s doing great teaching these young players about competitive golf.”

“This is our second year hosting the Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League,” said Kanawha Country Parks and Recreation Executive Director Jeff Hutchison.  “This short course fits the kids better than a regular course and the yardage is easier.  The course conditions are outstanding, and we may have some of the best greens in the state.”
