The Callaway Junior Tour, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West
Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), opened the 2024 season Monday at Guyan Golf & Country Club in
Huntington. There was a field of 70 golfers aged 10 to 18.
Bentley Shirkey of Barboursville, playing in the boys 12 and under division, won the Tri-State Roofing
and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for boys. Sidnea Belville of Ironton, Ohio, playing in the girls 15-18 division,
won the Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for girls. “I’m happy to start the season off with a
consistent round of golf,” said Shirkey. Belville said, “Today was a struggle at times but I finished with a couple
birdies on the day to help my score.”
“We are glad to have the Callaway Junior Tour back out here at Guyan. We’ve been supporting this
event for many years,” said Guyan’s Head PGA Professional Rick Ellison. “Our support for Junior Golf has a
great impact on the golf community in our state and we will continue to support this program.”
“We had a quick rain shower to end what was otherwise a great kickoff of the 2024 Callaway Junior Tour
season! Owen Leary and Aidan Page, our USGA PJ Boatwright interns, are a great addition to the WVGA team
for the summer,” said WVGA Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware.
