Elliott takes fourth Qualifier for 105th WV Amateur Championship in Bridgeport

The fourth qualifier for the 105th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place May 13 at Bridgeport Country Club.  Owen Elliott of Hedgesville was the Medalist of Monday’s qualifier with a four under par 68.  Other major presenters include United Bank and The Greenbrier.

Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship.  There were 71 players competing May 13 for 19 qualifying spots and two alternates in the Championship.  The other qualifying players from today were:

  • Jace Lancaster of Clarksburg, (-1) 71;
  • Matt Gissy of Weston, (+2) 74;
  • Caleb Osborne of Tunnelton, (+2) 74;
  • Ian Hogue of Clarksburg, (+3) 75;
  • Adam Ware of Grafton, (+3) 75;
  • Brian Bailey of Bridgeport, (+3) 75;
  • Michael Rogers of Follansbee, (+3) 75;
  • Joseph Ranieri of Fairmont, (+4) 76;
  • Solas Chhin-Kreiner of Morgantown, (+4) 76;
  • Joe Casalinuova of Fairmont, (+5) 77;
  • Caden Moore of Bridgeport, (+6) 78;
  • David Schwinler of Morgantown, (+6) 78;
  • Tom Williams of Bridgeport, (+6) 78;
  • Chad Griffith of Morgantown, (+6) 78;
  • Ryan Cool of Albright, (+7) 79;
  • Corey Jackson of Martinsburg, (+7) 79;
  • Buck Gower of Grafton, (+7) 79; and
  • Bryson Karp of Weston, (+7) 79.

The alternates are Nick Alex of Bridgeport and Chad Baldwin of Greenbank.

“We’re excited, as always, to host a WVGA qualifier and glad the weather cooperated today,” said Bridgeport’s Head Golf Professional Mike Gervais.  “The course is in great shape, thanks to Andy Bates and his crew.  We hope the golfers liked it.”

“We’re happy to be at Bridgeport Country Club to help determine our field for the West Virginia Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Auto, Mercedes-Benz, United Bank and The Greenbrier” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.  “We are thankful for the cooperation of these seven premier courses in West Virginia to determine our Championship field.”

The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:

May 16 at Pipestem Resort and State Park, Pipestem;

May 20 at Guyan Golf and Country Club, Huntington; and

May 22 “Last Chance Qualifier” at Stonewall Resort, Roanoke.

The 105th Amateur Championship will take place May 26-29 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 97 of the past 104 years.
