Callaway Junior Rookie League opens season in Sistersville

The Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), opened its season Sunday at Sistersville Country Club.

The CJRT Rookie League is broken into three divisions, based on skill and experience.  Division winners were:

  • AAA (nine holes): Jude Walker of Elizabeth, defeated John Mace of Sistersville in a scorecard playoff at three over par 38;
  • AA (nine holes): Mason Karp of Weston at (+11) 46; and
  • A (six holes): John (Vito) Faini of Morgantown at (+4) 27.

The event, a partner of Callaway Golf and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association, featured a field of 35 golfers aged 5 to 18 from across West Virginia.

One of today’s spectators was Tyler County Consolidated High School Assistant Golf Coach David Tucker who said, “It’s exciting to see a lot of our kids out here on the golf course and learning the game.  We are seeing an increase in our team numbers each year and it is great to see a lot of our kids out playing in the Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League event here at Sistersville Country Club today.”

“It was a great day to open our 2024 Callaway Junior Tour Rookie League season today at Sistersville. I’m always excited to see our junior golfers learning the competitive aspects of the game in this relaxed atmosphere,” said WVGA First Tee – WV Executive Director Jeff Preast.  “Our First Tee kids are now playing in our more structured leagues, so that’s great to see.”
