51st West Virginia Senior Women’s Amateur Opens at Lewisburg Elks Country Club 

The 51st playing of the West Virginia Women’s Amateur Championship, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), ended the first of two days with defending champion Melanie Collins tied for the lead at Lewisburg Elks Country Club.  Collins tied with Karen Rainey of Daniels at 11 over par (+11) 81.

This championship features 50 of the best senior female golfers in West Virginia.

“We are happy to host the 51st Women’s Senior Amateur Championship with all these great players,” said Lewisburg’s Davy Jones.

“While we love our senior women golfers, a bit of help from Mother Nature wouldn’t go amiss,” said WVGA Director of Women’s Golf and One Day Events Sarah Cole.

Division leaders after the first day are:

  • Championship Flight Gross: Melanie Collins of Parkersburg and Karen Rainey of Daniels
  • Championship Flight Net: Sylke Knuppel of Shepherdstown
  • Championship First Flight Gross: Lynn Roth of Charleston
  • Championship First Flight Net: Lori Vargo of Daniels
  • Championship Second Flight Gross: Mendy Bays of Kenova
  • Championship Second Flight Net: Donna Dugas of Warwood
  • Super Senior First Flight Gross: Janie Webber of Daniels
  • Super Senior First Flight Net: Lenora Thomas of Fayetteville
  • Super Senior Second Flight Gross: Becky Brogan of Hurricane and
  • Super Senior Second Flight Net: Grethe Christensen of Daniels.
