The 2025 West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) season opened with the 2024 WVGA Tri-State PGA Classic amateur champion, Ryan Bilby of Follansbee, holding a two-stroke lead at four under par (-4) 67 at Guyan Golf & Country Club. The field for today’s opening event featured 52 amateur and professional players from West Virginia and Florida, Idaho, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Tied for second at two under par (-2) 69 are professional David Scragg of Scott Depot and Lee van Horn of Huntington. Rounding out the top five, and tied for fourth at one under par (-1) 70 and Tanner Vest of Shady Spring and Jack Michael of Huntington.
“This is the first event of the WVGA season, and we love kicking off the year,” said Guyan’s assistant golf professional Cameron Grobe. “The rains have left the greens softer than usual, but the course is in great shape.”
WVGA’s Director of Junior Golf and Core Services Lucas Ware said, “We’d like to thank the Tri-State PGA organization for their support and Guyan Golf & Country Club for hosting this great event each year.”
