Day one is in the books at the West Virginia Golf Association’s (WVGA) Senior Four-Ball Championship at Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington with 39 two-man teams teeing off in two divisions.
Parkersburg Country Club members Brian McPherson and Cal Wood hold the lead in the Championship Division at seven under par 64. One stroke behind at six under par 65 is the team of Ian Patrick of Huntington and Todd Westfall of Bridgeport. In third, at four under par 67, is the team of Glenn Yost of Barboursville and Pat Carter of Huntington.
In the Senior Division, the team of Bob Clark and Penn Kurtz of Wheeling hold a one-stroke lead at four under par 67, leading Dell Adkins and Jim Freemon, both of Barbourville, by one stroke. Tied for third at two under par 69 are the team of Joe Crislip and Neil Christiansen, both of Parkersburg, and the team of Rick Degroff of Montrose and Mike Boggs of Hedgesville.
“It was overcast and gusty today, but temperatures were better than the heat we’ve had,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack.
Rick Ellison, Guyan’s head golf professional, said, “We’re excited to host this event, especially since so many of our members are playing. The course is in great shape thanks to our staff and the Bermuda grass.”
