Day one is in the books at the West Virginia Golf Association’s (WVGA) Four-Ball Match Play Championship at The Resort at Glade Springs in Daniels, W. Va. Earning Medalist honors in the qualifying round with a two-stroke lead at nine under par 63 were Joseph Kalaskey of South Charleston and Ryan Bilby of Follansbee.
“It was a perfect day to play golf in West Virginia today at The Resort at Glade Springs,” said WVGA Executive Director Chris Slack. “We had a field of 31 teams Friday, but that will be cut to 16 teams for Saturday.”
Other teams in the quarterfinal round of 16 are:
- Sam O’Dell of Hurricane and Pat Carter of Huntington;
- Cory Hoshor of Eleanor and Davey Jude of Kermit;
- Mason Weese of Charleston and Mitch Hoffman of Hurricane;
- Hunter O’Neal and Ben Ramsey, both of Bluefield, Va.;
- Chad Baldwin of Greenbank and Brandon Tinney of Shady Spring;
- Christian Brand of Scott Depot and Noah Mullens of Milton;
- Chase Wolfe and John Logan Taylor, both of Charleston;
- Doss Howell of Beckley and Landon Perry of Shady Spring;
- Johnathan Winkler and Grant Winkler, both of Daniels;
- Christopher Hafner and Troy Markley, both of Martinsburg;
- Nikolas Tomblin of Alum Creek and Mario Palumbo of Charleston;
- Bryson Beaver of Elkview and Tanner Vest of Shady Spring;
- Patrick McCune and Tyler Hillyer, both of Princeton;
- Chris and Nathan Daniels, both of Beckley; and
- Duncan Waugaman and Cam Roam, both of Huntington.
Jared Porter, golf professional at Glade Springs Resort, said, “The weather has been hit or miss, but the course will help determine the best players this weekend. It’s great to see some of the best amateur golfers in the state paired up.”
