2023 WV Four-Ball Match Play Championship ends in tie at Raven Golf Club
The teams of Cory Hoshor of Scott Depot and Davey Jude of Kermit and Sam O’Dell of Hurricane and Pat Carter of Huntington beat the competition, but not the weather, to become co-champions of the inaugural West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) Four-Ball Match Play Championship at The Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Resort.
“I’m glad The Raven could host the first-ever Four-Ball Match Play Championship,” said The Raven’s Head Golf Professional Chester Guzek. “I wish there hadn’t been so much rain, but the course has held up.”
The road to the win involved stroke play on Friday to determine match seeds for Saturday and Sunday.
In Round of 16 match play:
Cory Hoshor of Scott Depot and Davey Jude of Kermit defeated Chris Carter of Tornado and Joseph Menello of St. Albans 5 and 4;
Jay Davis of St. Clairsville, Ohio and Bryan Myers of Wheeling defeated Chris and Nathan Daniels of Beckley 1 up;
Duncan Waugaman and Cam Roam, both of Huntington, defeated Chase Wolfe of Charleston and Tyler Shamblin of Elkview 2 and 1;
Jeff Harper of Coolville, Ohio and Chuck Workman Marlinton defeated Trenton Roush of Point Pleasant and Michael Roush of Mason 2 up;
Sam O’Dell of Hurricane and Pat Carter of Huntington defeated Chris Bohach of Ona and John Duty of Morgantown 2 and 1;
Jeff McGraw of Princeton and Nick Dent of White Sulphur Springs defeated Brandon Wilfong of Cass and Tony Mazzella of Morgantown 5 and 4;
Jared Taylor of Bluefield and Jess Ferrell of Fairmont defeated Grant Reeves of Cass and Evan Cole of Elkview 4 and 3; and
Mike Keiffer of Scott Depot and Jeff Whitman of Hurricane defeated Doss Howell of Beckley and Landon Perry of Shady Spring 2 and 1.
In quarterfinal play:
Hoshor and Jude defeated Davis and Myers 5 & 4;
Waugaman and Roam defeated Harper and Workman 1 up;
O’Dell and Cartre defeated McGraw and Dent in 19 holes; and
Keiffer and Whitman defeated Taylor and Ferrell 3 and 2.
The semi-finals saw Hoshor and Jude defeat Waugaman and Roam 2 and 1, while O’Dell and Carter defeated Keiffer and Whitman 4 and 3 to set up the Championship match of Hoshor and Jude versus O’Dell and Carter.
