The 101st playing of the West Virginia Women’s Amateur, conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), saw a five-hole playoff on the final day of the three-day championship at Bridgeport Country Club with Susan Glasby of Chesapeake, Ohio, emerging victorious over Savannah Hawkins of Hurricane.
Tuesday’s final round of stroke play saw Glasby tied with Hawkins at the end of regulation play at seven over par 223 for the tournament in the Championship Flight. Other top finishers in the Championship Flight were Emily Holzopfel of Rayland, Ohio, in third, Taylor Sargent of Milton in fourth and Cathleen Wong of Parkersburg in fifth.
“The fact that a five-hole playoff settled the championship after three days speaks to the strength of this field and the caliber of women’s golf in West Virginia,” said Bridgeport’s Head Golf Pro Mike Gervais.
In the First Flight, the winner was Ella Keffer of Marietta, Ohio, besting second place finisher Kailey Pettit of Moundsville by five strokes. Rounding out the top five were Marra Johnson of Bridgeport in third, Christine Derienzo of Charleston in fourth and Emma Nicol of Charleston in fifth.
Skylar Jefairjian of Fairmont won the Second Flight by two strokes over Leigh Chandler, also of Fairmont. Lisa Younis of Shepherdstown took third, followed by Scarlett Albertson of Charleston in fourth and Karen Rainey of Daniels in fifth.
Audrey Kerr of Bridgeport took overall net honors by three strokes over Taylor Sargent of Milton. Ella Keffer of Marietta, Ohio, took third, followed by Allison Ballard of Charleston and Nicole Lincicome of Vienna tied for fourth.
This championship featured 24 of the best female golfers from West Virginia from teenagers to seniors.
