Jim Cragett of Crab Orchard earned Thursday’s Little General Stores Low Round of the Day at the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA) Senior Series event at Pipestem Resort State Park with four birdies to score a one over par 71.

Pipestem’s Golf Operations Manager Steve Robertson said, “We were expecting approximately 80 people today and very much looked forward to hosting the WVGA Senior Series.  It was good weather for golf.”

“It was another hot one for the seniors today at Pipestem, but the guys played well and were very fortunate to have another great host in Pipestem and Steve Robertson,” said WVGA Tournament Manager Chance Hindbaugh.

The West Virginia Senior Series, which is presented by Little General Stores and conducted by the WVGA, is for players age 50 and up.  A total of 76 golfers played Thursday’s round. Categories are:  Senior, 50-59; Silver, 60-69; Gold, 70-79; and 80+.

In addition to Cragett winning the Gold Gross category, other winners today were:

  • Senior Gross: Mark Strickland of Boomer;
  • Senior Net: Thomas “Max” Morris of Princeton;
  • Silver Gross: Joe Crislip of Parkersburg;
  • Silver Net: Wayne Talbott of Lewisburg; and
  • Gold Net: Butch Freeman of Daniels.
