Qualifying for the 98th WV Amateur presented by Mercedes-Benz continued on Tuesday from the host site, The Resort at Glade Springs – Cobb course. A total of sixty-six players teed off looking to claim one of twenty-seven spots into the championship to be contested June 12th-15th. The players were met with ideal weather conditions during the morning hours as a steady breeze picked-up later in the afternoon.

Mike Keiffer of Scott Depot won medalist honors with an impressive round of 2-under-par, 70. Keiffer’s round of 70 was good enough to edge Tyler Hillyer of Princeton by one shot. At the completion of play there were exactly 27 players who carded a score of 79 or better and secured their spot into the Championship in two weeks here on the Cobb Course. A playoff for the two alternates was decided between 7 players who all carded qualifying rounds of 80. After all players made par on the first hole, John Auville and Derek Brooks advanced to the difficult par-3 third after both made birdie on the second hole of the playoff.  One of the more difficult par-3’s on the course playing at 227 yards, Auville found trouble that lead to a double-bogey 5 as Brooks made par and claimed the first alternate spot.

The West Virginia Amateur is proud to again be presented by Mercedes-Benz and all of the great dealers here in West Virginia: Astorg Auto of Charleston, Astorg Auto of Parkersburg, and Mercedes-Benz of Morgantown.
