
Davey Jude of Kermit was the Medalist of the first qualifier for the 102nd WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Auto and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston, with a two under par 71 at the Parkersburg Country Club.
The first qualifier for the 102nd WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place July 5 at Parkersburg Country Club. Davey Jude of Kermit was the Medalist of the first qualifier with a two under par 71.
“It’s great to be back playing in the West Virginia Amateur,” said Jude. “This is something l have looked forward to for a long time.”
Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship, including six past champions. 48 of those players competed July 5 for 12 spots in the Championship. The other 11 qualifying players from today are: Tad Tomblin of Alum Creek; Cameron Jarvis of Barboursville; Jeremy Tucker of Letart; Ben Ekelman of Parkersburg; Trenton Roush of Point Pleasant; Davis Haynes of Ripley; and Chris Christian, Steve Hussey, Iassc Prine, Joel Suder and Bud Tate of Vienna.
The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:
July 8th at Locust Hill Golf Course, Charles Town
July 12th at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club, Hurricane
July 16th at Pipestem State Park, Pipestem
July 18th at Riverside Golf Club, Mason
July 22nd at The Pines Country Club, Morgantown
July 28th “Last Chance Qualifier” July 28th at Greenhills Country Club, Ravenswood
The Amateur Championship will take place August 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 94 of the past 101 years.
