(Lewisburg, WV) Picture perfect scoring conditions welcomed the women during the final round of the 43rd West Virginia Women’s Senior Amateur which was played at Lewisburg Elks Country Club. After a one hour rain suspension during yesterday’s first round and overnight thunderstorms the course played soft and receptive which created a great backdrop for players to battle their way up the leaderboard.

Following round 1 players were placed into flights according to their round one gross scores. Flight winners included the following: Fourth Flight – Kim Mallory, Jennifer McCauley (Net), Third Flight – Sue Bryant, Suze Sheehan (Net), Second Flight – Shelia Talbot, Becky Moots (Net), First Flight – Sheila Holstein, Esther Joo (Net), and Championship Net Flight Winner was Kathy Thompson. The Gold Division winner (70+) was Sheila Holstein and the Silver Division Winner (60+) was Caroline Ramsey.

Claiming her 14th West Virginia Women’s Senior Amateur was Caroline Ramsey of Bridgeport. Ramsey, who carded an opening round of one under-par, 69, followed it up with a two over-par 72 giving her a tournament total of 141. These two great rounds gave Ramsey a 15-shot victory over second place finisher Mary Payne of Charleston who carded a tournament total of 156. Claiming third place in the Championship Flight was Karen Kinnett of Shepherdstown who posted a tournament total 157.

The WVGA would like to thank Lewisburg Elks, Roy Painter, and his staff for all that they have done for this championship. We are also excited to announce that next year’s 44th West Virginia Women’s Senior Amateur will be held at Alpine Lakes Resort.
