Sara Veara said, “I want to thank Wheeling Country Club for hosting us and the Cindy O’Donnell Foundation for selecting me as a Junior Golf Ambassador.”

“I had a couple bad holes, but didn’t let it affect my overall game,” Lucas Riggleman said. “It was nice to make a birdie on the playoff on 18 after making a double bogey there in regulation play.”

The Callaway Junior Tour Northern Swing, presented by the Cindy O’Donnell Foundation, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), saw a field of 71 young golfers Wednesday at Wheeling Country Club.

In a four-person playoff, the largest this season, Lucas Riggleman of Petersburg defeated Bobby Kincaid of Nampa, Idaho, Justin Doerr of Wheeling and Jack Michael of Huntington to win the Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for boys with a one over par 71.

“I had a couple bad holes, but didn’t let it affect my overall game,” Riggleman said. “It was nice to make a birdie on the playoff on 18 after making a double bogey there in regulation play.”

The Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for girls went to Sara Veara of Berkeley Springs with an 82.  Veara said, “I want to thank Wheeling Country Club for hosting us and the Cindy O’Donnell Foundation for selecting me as a Junior Golf Ambassador.”

“The Cindy O’Donnell Foundation has partnered with the First Tee program in Wheeling and the Northern Swing lets us grow our program and youth golf in this area,” said Foundation President Patrick O’Donnell.  “These Ambassadors, like Sara Veara, are our chance for the Foundation to be seen and these young golfers to live out their dreams.”

Wheeling Country Club’s Head Golf Professional and General Manager Rich Conwell said, “We’ve really been looking forward to this event.  The weather almost cooperated and gave these kids a fair test of golf.”

“The bad weather mostly stayed away and we were able to get the full round in and conclude it with the biggest playoff of the year to date, with four golfers battling it out for Low Round honors,” said WVGA Tournament Manager – Youth Operations Lucas Ware.
