Greenhills Country Club in Ravenswood saw the final six golfers earn their way to the 102nd WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA).
Jeff McGraw of Princeton was today’s Medalist with an even par score of 72 at Greenhills Golf Course in Ravenswood.
“We are always pleased to be involved with WVGA events. This gives us a chance to showcase a public course that folks still think is a private club,” said Greenhills Golf Course Director of Golf Warren Root. “This course is a good test for players, since our greens are complex and carry a slope. After this spring flooding, most fairways are immaculate and our greens are in good shape.”
Over 400 golfers from West Virginia registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship in seven events, including six past champions; a total of 132 qualified. Today’s field included 54 golfers and the other five qualifying players were: Max Knapp of Charleston; Zan Hill of Daniels; Cole Kiley of Huntington; and John Bumgarner and Jacob Haynes of Hurricane.
The First Round of the West Virginia Amateur will be played Sunday August 1st at The Greenbrier. The Amateur Championship will take place August 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 94 of the past 101 years.
