The weather couldn’t have been better on Friday at Riverside Golf Club where qualifying for the 98th WV Amateur presented by Mercedes-Benz continued. Twenty-five players began the day looking to claim one of eleven spots into the championship to be contested on June 12th-15th at The Resort at Glade Springs – Cobb Course.
Jerry Stutler of Spencer claimed medalist honors carding a one under-par, 69, which was two shots clear of Dr. Larry Kalaskey III who was second after a round of 71. Due to a conflict Dr. Kalaskey found out that he will be unable to compete in the Championship in two weeks which then allowed two players, Jacob Workman (79) and Mason Humphrey (79), to head to a sudden death playoff for the last qualifying spot and first alternate. On the first playoff hole it was Workman who claimed the last qualifying spot with a bogey to earn his way to this month’s Championship. Mason Humphrey claims the first alternate position while Stephen Gretchen claimed the second.
The West Virginia Amateur is proud to again be presented by Mercedes-Benz and all of the great dealers here in West Virginia: Astorg Auto of Charleston, Astorg Auto of Parkersburg, and Mercedes-Benz of Morgantown. The final qualifier for the 98th West Virginia Amateur presented by Mercedes-Benz will take place on Monday, June 5th at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club.
