The 2022 Junior Match Play Championship, for players under 18 and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place Saturday at Parkersburg Country Club.  Two teammates from Westside High School in Oceana, have earned the titles of 2022 Junior Match Play champions.

Kerri-Anne Cook won the girls’ title in the 2022 Junior Match Play Championship.

Kerri-Anne Cook of Oceana defeated Milton’s Taylor Sargent 1 up to win the girls’ championship.  “I want to thank Parkersburg Country Club for their hospitality,” Cook said.  “I was happy to finally win the Match Play Championship after winning the 2021 WVGA Junior Amateur Championship.”

Tanner Walls won the boys’ 2022 Junior Match Play Championship winner’s trophy.

On the boys’ side, Tanner Walls of Matheny defeated Zan Hill of Daniels in 22 holes for the first semi-final match, while Gavin Goodrich of Wheeling topped Argyle Downes of Charles Town 4 & 2 in the second semi-final.  Walls went on to win 1 up over Goodrich for the title.  “It’s a good start to the summer before I begin college golf this fall,” Walls said.  “I appreciate everything the Parkersburg Country Club people did to make this a great event.”

“We’ve been the main host location for this event since its inception,” said Parkersburg’s Head Golf Professional Scott Davidson.  “It’s always special to crown the champions on Mother’s Day.”
