The first qualifier for the 103rd WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took place July 5 at Parkersburg Country Club. After a two-hour rain delay, Todd Duncan of Daniels and Tad Tomblin of Alum Creek were the co-Medalists of the first qualifier with a one under par 72.
Other major presenters include United Bank and The Greenbrier.
Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship. There were 34 players competing July 5 for nine spots in the Championship. The other qualifying players from today were:
- Cameron Jarvis of Barboursville, (+2) 75;
- Trenton Roush of Point Pleasant, (+2) 75;
- Isaac Prine of Parkersburg, (+2) 75;
- Cason Edwards of Saint Mary’s, (+2) 75;
- Jonah Fryman of Parkersburg, (+6) 79;
- Mace Busch of Parkersburg, (+6) 79; and
- Caleb Moore of Spencer, (+6) 79.
“This is the seventh year of our partnership with Astorg Auto and Mercedes-Benz for this Championship,” said WVGA Executive Director Brad Ullman. “We are excited to get qualifying underway here at Parkersburg Country Club and we look forward to the 103rd playing of the West Virginia Amateur.”

We’re proud of qualifiers Mace Busch and Cason Edwards and alternate Carl Umpleby and hope to see you all represent Parkersburg Country Club at The Greenbrier.”
The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:
July 8th at Pipestem State Park, Pipestem;
July 11th at Edgewood Country Club, Sissonville;
July 18th at Bridgeport Country Club, Bridgeport;
July 21st at Locust Hill Golf Course, Charles Town;
July 25th at Guyan Golf and Country Club, Huntington; and
July 27th “Last Chance Qualifier” at Greenhills Country Club, Ravenswood.
The Amateur Championship will take place July 31 – August 3 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 95 of the past 102 years.
