Jeremy Vallet of Logan was today’s Medalist, shooting a three under par 67. “I got off to a hot start and cruised coming home,” Vallet said of his round. “I’m looking forward to playing another West Virginia Amateur at The Greenbrier.”

Riverside Golf Club in Mason saw 15 golfers qualify on July 16 for the 102nd WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA).

Jeremy Vallet of Logan was today’s Medalist, shooting a three under par 67.  Starting his play on the 10th hole, Vallet’s round was highlighted by a four under par 31 on the back nine (his first nine holes).  “I got off to a hot start and cruised coming home,” Vallet said of his round.  “I’m looking forward to playing another West Virginia Amateur at The Greenbrier.”

Over 400 golfers from West Virginia have registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship, including six past champions.  58 of those players competed July 18 for 15 spots in the Championship.  The other 14 qualifying players from today were: Joe Casalinuova, Fairmont; Josh Stephenson, Duncan Waugaman and Adam Yeager, Huntington; Chris Johnson, Letart; Ryan Butcher, Madison; Jason King, New Haven; Mike Koreski and Justin McCarter, Parkersburg; Joshua Martin, Poca; Camden Moore, Spencer;  Coleman Lamp and Steven Nutter, St. Marys; and Colby James, Washington.

The remaining qualifying dates and locations are:

July 22nd at The Pines Country Club, Morgantown

July 28th “Last Chance Qualifier” July 28th at Greenhills Country Club, Ravenswood

The Amateur Championship will take place August 1-4 at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 94 of the past 101 years.
