“It’s bittersweet to play my last Callaway Junior Tour round at Locust Hill, but I’m glad to have played well,” Veara said.

The Callaway Junior Tour, sponsored by Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal and hosted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA), kept its cool in the hottest weather of the year Wednesday at Locust Hill Golf Course in Charles Town, with a “feels like” temperature of 95.

Grant Roush of Mason scored six birdies on his way to winning the Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for boys.  He said, “Two under par was my best score before today, and I was happy to finish out the round with only one bogey.”

Sara Veara of Berkeley Springs won the Tri-State Roofing and Sheet Metal Round of the Day for girls.  “It’s bittersweet to play my last Callaway Junior Tour round at Locust Hill, but I’m glad to have played well,” she said.

“We always enjoy hosting the Callaway Junior Tour and all WVGA events,” said Locust Hill PGA Professional Wayne Clark. “We’re excited to have a Rookie League event here later in the year.”

“The hottest event of the year so far saw our lowest round of the season to date,” said WVGA Tournament Manager – Youth Operations Lucas Ware.  “I’m thankful to Locust Hill for hosting us today.”

Division winners were:

  • Boys 12 & under: Matthew Riggleman of Petersburg;
  • Boys 13-14: Grant Roush of Mason;
  • Boys 15-16: Andrew Taylor of Summit Point;
  • Boys 17-18: Bobby Kincaid of Nampa, Idaho;
  • Girls 10-14: Isabelle Studli of Fairfield, Pa.; and
  • Girls 15-18: Sara Veara of Berkeley Springs.
