The Greenbrier saw 120 players tee off on the Meadows Course at The Greenbrier, ending with three tied at the top of the leaderboard after Round One of the 102nd WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Motor Company and Mercedes-Benz of Charleston, sponsored by United Bank and conducted by the West Virginia Golf Association (WVGA).
Isaiah Zacceho started his round strong with the help of an eagle-3 at the par 5 fourth hole, and finished his round with birdies on three of his last six holes for an opening round of 3-under par 67 and a share of the lead. The 2020 WV Mid-Amateur Champion, Hutson Chandler, opened with a round of 67, along with defending champion Alex Easthom, of Ravenswood. The reigning WV Mid-Amateur Champion, Chris Williams of Scott Depot, got off to a fast start birdieing six of his first eight holes. He would go on to shoot a 3-under par 67, currently in 4th. Steve Fox, playing in his 54th and final West Virginia Amateur, posted an opening round of even-par.

Over 430 golfers from West Virginia registered to qualify for this year’s Amateur Championship in seven events, and a total of 132 qualified, including six past champions.
The 102nd West Virginia Amateur will continue through August 4st at The Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 94 of the past 101 years.
